“If it’s a good movie, the sound could go off and the audience would still have a perfectly clear idea of what was going on.” -Alfred Hitchcock

What does this implies about what we see on the screen?

This implies that a good movie can attract the audience without sounds. The audience will be attracted to watch the movie and also know what was going on without voices and music. This is because the visuals can convey emotions and atmosphere clearly that we don’t actually need voices and music.

Which is more important to you as you experience film?

To me, I find that the visuals are more important when I watch a film. The sounds only help to enhance the emotions and feelings of certain characters. However, a movie can seem bland and boring if there isn’t any sound to help gain the momentum or explain what is going on. Movies without voices can also sometimes be confusing as some story lines cannot be conveyed without having dialogue.
